The math lesson plans listed below meet the following recommendations made by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM):

  • Using estimation in solving problems and in checking results.
  • Developing, using and interpreting tables, graphs and other visual representations of numbers.

How Much Gear? Estimate, calculate and compare weight/mass and volume within customary and metric systems.
As High as Mt. Everest Construct a simple scale drawing for a given situation.
Converting My Thinking Estimate and calculate conversions between measures within the customary and metric systems.
Temperatures Are Not Rising! Organize and display data using tables, charts and graphs.
Not So Average Mountains Using a data set, compare mean, media and mode.
