Summit Flag Contest:
Hillcrest Elementary School, Delphi, Indiana
Mrs. Barb Bergner’s 5th Grade Class

Congratulations! (click picture to enlarge)

“The students shared their posters with their grandparents at Hillcrest’s Grandparents’ Day recognition. It was interesting to once again hear their reasoning for choosing certain symbols. Students drew the mountain to indicate that we are not scared to try. (Left photo) Students explained the flag as a combination of Canada and the USA’s efforts to scale the mountain. (Center photo) Hands on the mountain represent teamwork not only for the climbers but for all of us here at home. The airplane had dual symbolism: it took the lives of Ed Hommer’s friends as well as his legs, and it took him to Mt. Everest to climb. (Right photo) Students included the Twin Towers so Ed Hommer would remember that those people had suffered even more than any of us. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to participate!” — Mrs. Barb Bergner, Teacher
